Rockingham is the county seat of Richmond County. It was on April 19, 1774, that a county-seat was authorized, to be called Rockingham. April 19 may be considered as the birth date for Rockingham.
Discovery Place Kids
Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham is the second Discovery Place KIDS museum and the first step in a journey of lifelong learning for children and families in the Sandhills region. Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham is a children's museum that will serve children and their caregivers from throughout the Sandhills/South Central Piedmont region of North Carolina.
Thursday Night Plaza Jam
The lineup for this year will be The Tim Clark Band on May 7, Jim Quick and Coastline on June 4, The Rick Strickland Band on July 30, The Tams on Aug. 6, Too Much Sylvia on Sept. 3 and Band of Oz on Oct. 1 with each concert running from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the plaza beside Rockingham City Hall.

The City of Rockingham has been working on the Hitchcock Creek Blueway Project for several years. New new recreational area has already received many visitors. American Rivers has helped to transform Hitchcock Creek in Rockingham, North Carolina into a destination for fishing, boating, and other family-friendly recreation.
